Thurrock Scouts Entertain Australian Visitors

Posted on October 3rd, 2011

For the past couple of weeks Thurrock have been hosts to 4 Venture Scouts and 2 Leaders from Australia. They have been staying at Condovers and during that time they have been very busy! Along with the typical visits to London, the Venturers have also visited Ipswich, had an enjoyable day at Thorpe Park, taken part in County Marathon with Thurrock Explorers, visited Gilwell Park and also met the Mayor who entertained them in the Council Chamber.

They have also paid a visit to Chadwell Beavers and Cubs, Ockendon Scouts and both Aquilla and Pyxis Explorer Scouts which was an interesting experience for both sides, finding out how different Scouting is on the other side of the world. The Ventures had nothing but praise for their visit. One said “Not one highlight, a ‘full on’ well balanced programme. Good mix of visits to local Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, tourist attractions in London, the countryside plus of course all the home hospitality”. “We have met some amazing people, who have made us welcome and done so much for us. Too many to name!” said another. Many thanks goes to Avock Scout Active Support and Thurrock Explorers for organising the programme and also providing the hospitality on behalf of the District.
