Dave’s Marathon effort to raise funds for Scouting

2nd April 2015
Dave Tapsell, lead volunteer for Scouts in Thurrock, will again be taking on the massive challenge of the London Marathon on Sunday 26th April.

This will be the second time Dave has run the marathon (his first was in 2013) and will once again be raising funds for UK Scouting after raising nearly £3000 last time.

On Saturday 7th February I held a Fundraising Quiz Night at 1st Ockendon Scout & Guide Group HQ to try and push me some way towards achieving the £1200 I need to raise this year.

A great night seemed to be had by all and I just want to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you that came and helped me to raise a staggering £711.

Plus on top of that, I received a very generous donation of £200 from Griffin Residential who have also started up The Griffin Foundation, making the total on the night an overwhelming £911 raised.

I would like to say a big thank you to the Quiz Master Ian Newell, to Lucy Hill for getting the majority of the Raffle Prize donations from various shops and for also presenting me with the £200 Griffin Foundation Cheque. Sharon Armfield for making the brilliant Wooden Spoons for the last place finishers, to Marc ‘Chucky’ Chattaway for helping mark the answers, to everyone that donated raffle prizes and finally thank you to 1st Ockendon Scout & Guide Group who very generously allowed me to use their hall.

What I have kept a secret and can now reveal is that after a discussion with The Scout Association anything over the £1200 agreed limit will be split 50/50 between UK Scouting and Thurrock. So please keep donating and let’s raise as much money as we can, not only for UK Scouting but now for the benefit of our own District.

To date Dave has raised over £1500 but there is still time to support him! If you haven’t donated and wish to do so then please visit www.virginmoneygiving.com/davidtapsell.
