The 100 Cubs and Scouts spent the day taking part in lots of activities including Crate Stacking, Archery, Cresta Run and the 3D Maze. They also had the chance to make survival bracelets from paracord and cook some tasty pitta pizzas on a fire with the Backwoods Cooking base.
David Tapsell, lead volunteer for Scouts in Thurrock, was pleased with the event: “The whole day seemed to go off really well and I saw an awful lot of smiley faces whilst walking around the site.”
“This is such a good event to integrate the older Cubs and the younger Scouts even if groups do run their own linking activities. It is also good for the leaders as they also get to put faces to names that they may have heard but do not necessarily know” added David.
One Scout really enjoyed the challenge of driving the pedal cars blindfolded and being told directions by their peers: “It was really difficult, but I only crashed twice!”
Thanks go out to all of the leaders who helped make the event a big success: Thurrock Gang Show SAS for the Backwoods Cooking, Frankie Abbott, Tony Skinner and Christine Skinner for the Archery, Sue Rogers and Jill Blackburn for the survival bracelets and the Thriftwood Crew for the Ice Climbing and Crate Stacking.
