Michael Taylor, aged 9, reacted quickly and calmly after his dad Malcolm collapsed at home. After rushing to get help from a neighbour, he returned to his father and kept him calm and comfortable until the paramedics arrived.
His bravery has now been recognised with a Chief Scout’s Personal Award, which is awarded by Bear Grylls himself, for acts of special bravery or outstanding conduct.
Michael was presented his award at a special meeting at Damyns Aerodrome in Upminster by Peter Cobley, Deputy Commissioner for Thurrock Scouts, along with a letter of commendation and a Lakeside gift voucher.
“With Michael acting so quickly and staying calm throughout the situation, Michael’s dad has made a full recovery. Michael is the perfect example of how Scouting helps young people develop the skills to deal with any situation life may throw at them,“ said Peter after presenting the award.
