1st Horndon on the Hill Cubs learn about WaterAid and enjoy Campfire

14th March 2017
1st Horndon on the Hill Cubs recently enjoyed two fun evenings looking at the issue of clean water and an enjoyable campfire.

The first evening saw the Cubs learning about the charity WaterAid and that over 663 million people do not have access to clean water. The young people then made water filters from gravel, sand, coffee filters, charcoal and cloth and tested them out by making dirty water and pouring it through the filters.

The Cubs were surprised how well their filters worked and that all they would have to do is boil or use a purifying tablet to make the water drinkable.

The second evening had the Cubs enjoying a campfire. Smores and sausages were cooked and various campfire songs were sung. The section also held a pack forum where they discussed and planned a future evening where the Cubs would be backwoods cooking with their parents/carers.
